Supplement Disclaimer & Safety
What our products are, what they are not, who should not take them, and how to report a problem.
1. Read this before you use our products
This policy sets out the safety terms that apply to everything we sell. It is part of our Terms of Service, and by ordering from puritassupps.com you confirm you have read it.
It is written to be understood, not to be skimmed past. Supplements are not risk-free just because they are sold without a prescription, and the sections below explain the specific situations where you should stop and get advice before taking something.
2. What the FDA disclaimer actually means
These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
Dietary supplements are regulated in the United States under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 (DSHEA). Under that law:
- supplements are regulated as a category of food, not as drugs;
- they are not reviewed or approved by the FDA before they go on sale, unlike prescription and over-the-counter medicines;
- the manufacturer, not the FDA, is responsible for making sure a product is safe and that its claims are truthful and substantiated;
- we may describe how an ingredient supports normal structure or function of the body, but we may not claim that any product diagnoses, treats, cures, or prevents a disease — and we do not.
If you read a claim anywhere on this store that sounds like a promise to treat or cure a condition, it is an error. Tell us at hello@puritassupps.com and we will correct it.
3. Nothing here is medical advice
Product descriptions, ingredient explanations, articles, emails, and support correspondence are general information only. They are not medical advice, not a diagnosis, and not a treatment recommendation, and they do not create a practitioner–patient relationship between you and us.
We are a retailer. Our support team can answer questions about ingredients, servings, and orders. They cannot tell you whether a product is right for you, safe with your medication, or appropriate for a condition you have — only a qualified healthcare professional who knows your history can do that.
Never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you read on this store. Do not stop or change a prescribed medication in order to take a supplement.
4. Talk to a healthcare professional first
Consult your physician, pharmacist, or another qualified healthcare professional before you start any supplement — and take the product label or this website with you so they can see the full ingredient list and doses.
This matters most if any of the following apply to you:
- you are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding;
- you take any prescription or over-the-counter medication;
- you have a diagnosed medical condition — including heart, liver, kidney, thyroid, or autoimmune conditions, diabetes, high or low blood pressure, a bleeding disorder, a seizure disorder, or a hormone-sensitive condition;
- you have a history of eating disorders or of substance misuse;
- you are scheduled for surgery — many supplements, particularly botanicals, affect bleeding, blood pressure, or anaesthesia, and should usually be stopped at least two weeks beforehand;
- you have known allergies or sensitivities;
- you are already taking other supplements.
5. Who should not use our products
Do not use our products if:
- you are under 18. Our products are formulated and dosed for adults and are not intended for children. Keep all supplements out of reach of children — some ingredients, iron in particular, are seriously dangerous to a child in quantity.
- you are allergic to any listed ingredient, or to anything the label names as a possible trace from shared equipment.
- the safety seal is broken or missing, the packaging is damaged, or the product is past its best-before date. Do not use it — contact us instead.
- a healthcare professional has told you not to.
6. Allergens and ingredients
Read the full ingredient list on the label before every first use, and again if you reorder — formulations and suppliers change. Where the label and this website differ, the label is authoritative.
Some products are made in facilities that also handle common allergens, including milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy, and sesame. Where that applies, the label says so. If you have a severe allergy, do not rely on the website — check the label, and contact us at hello@puritassupps.com before ordering if anything is unclear.
"Natural" does not mean "safe for everyone." Botanical ingredients are among the most common causes of supplement allergy and interaction.
7. Interactions with medication and other supplements
Supplements can interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines — increasing their effect, blunting it, or causing a new problem. Interactions are common, and they are not always obvious or immediate.
Ask a pharmacist before combining a supplement with medication. A pharmacist can check the whole list quickly and free of charge, and this is exactly what they are trained for.
Take particular care with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs, blood pressure and heart medication, diabetes medication, thyroid medication, immunosuppressants, sedatives, antidepressants, hormonal contraceptives, and any medication with a narrow therapeutic window. Also take care when stacking several supplements — doses of the same nutrient add up across products, and more is not better.
8. Directions, dosage, and storage
Use only as directed on the label. Do not exceed the recommended serving. Exceeding a stated dose does not accelerate a result and can cause harm — some vitamins and minerals are toxic in excess.
Store products as the label directs, usually in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, tightly closed. Do not use a product past its best-before date. Discard any product that has changed colour, texture, or smell.
Introduce one new product at a time and give it a few days, so that if you do react you know what caused it.
9. Testing and quality
Where a product page says a product is third-party tested, it means an independent laboratory — not us and not the manufacturer — has tested it for identity and potency, and for contaminants such as heavy metals and microbes. Testing is done by batch.
Third-party testing tells you that what is in the tub matches the label. It does not mean the FDA has reviewed or approved the product, and it is not a statement that the product is effective or that it is safe for you specifically.
To request the certificate of analysis for the batch you received, email hello@puritassupps.com with the lot number printed on your label.
10. Individual results vary
Any result described on this store — by us or by a customer — is that person's experience and is not a promise of what you will experience. Response to a supplement depends on your diet, sleep, training, health, medication, genetics, and how consistently you take it. We make no guarantee of any specific outcome, and no supplement substitutes for a balanced diet, adequate sleep, or medical treatment.
11. Competitive athletes and drug testing
If you are subject to drug testing — under WADA, USADA, the NCAA, a professional league, or military or workplace testing — check every product with your compliance officer, coach, or governing body before you take it. Ingredients that are perfectly legal to sell can still be prohibited in competition, and cross-contamination in shared manufacturing facilities is a known risk across the industry. You are responsible for what is in your body. We cannot certify any product as safe for competition, and a positive test is not something we can undo.
12. Side effects and how to report a problem
Stop taking the product immediately if you experience an unexpected reaction. Seek medical attention if the reaction is severe or does not settle. Signs of a serious allergic reaction — swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing, a widespread rash, or fainting — are a medical emergency. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
You can also reach the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222, free, 24 hours a day.
Tell us
Report any adverse reaction to safety@puritassupps.com or call 1-800-000-0000, and keep the product and its packaging including the lot number. Federal law requires us to record and investigate reports of serious adverse events and to report them to the FDA, so telling us matters beyond your own order — it is how a bad batch gets caught.
Include the product name and lot number, when you started taking it, the dose, what happened and when, any other supplements or medications you take, and whether you sought medical care.
Tell the FDA
You may also report directly to the FDA through MedWatch at fda.gov/safety/medwatch or by calling 1-800-FDA-1088. You do not need our permission and you do not need to be certain the product caused it.
13. California Proposition 65
California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65) requires a warning where a product can expose a consumer to a chemical the State of California has listed as causing cancer, birth defects, or reproductive harm. Some botanicals and mineral ingredients contain trace amounts of listed substances that occur naturally in soil. Where a Proposition 65 warning applies to a product, it appears on that product's label and on its product page. A warning is not a statement that the product is unsafe or that it violates any safety standard.
14. Formulation changes and recalls
We may reformulate, repackage, or discontinue a product at any time. If we or a manufacturer identify a safety problem with a batch you bought, we will contact you using the details on your order — which is one reason we ask for a working email address. Recall notices are also posted on the store. If you are contacted about a recall, stop using the product immediately and follow the instructions in the notice.
